Born and raised in South Jersey, John was a sales representative for Brooks Sports, Superfeet and other brand where he served the specialty running industry in the NYC and metropolitan area for nearly 12 years. In September of 2013 he made his move toward his dream and co-founded Modern Athlete with his partner and recently named wife, Angela.
John’s industry experience combined with his product and biomechanics knowledge makes his ability to fit anyone and everyone with the appropriate shoe unsurpassed. When not at Modern Athlete, John can be found riding or running the streets of Florham Park or swimming in a local pool.
While at Paul VI High School John was State Champion in Cross Country and 2nd at the NJ State All Group Cross Country Championships. At St. Joseph’s University he was a team captain and won the Atlantic 10 Individual Cross Country Championship.
Matt grew up in Princeton, New Jersey where he ran track and cross country for Princeton High School. He has continued with the sport ever since, training for the occasional road or trail race.
Matt has held various roles in the specialty running industry since graduating college in 2008 and has been an integral part of Modern Athlete since it opened its doors in January 2014.
These days Matt prefers trail running to road running but can be found doing both in the Florham Park area. Though still exploring the local trail systems, his favorite trails are at Watchung Reservation and Lewis Morris Park/Jockey Hollow.
Modern Athlete co-founder Angela can be found in-store on weekends hanging out with her husband John and talking with customers about their fitness goals or favorite shoes and clothes. As a kid, Angela swam competitively, ran track and rode her bike to many a part-time job, primarily local pools where she swam and life guarded. While living and working as an accountant in NYC Angela started training for triathlons and has since successfully completed sprint through Ironman distances, placing overall locally and at the top of her age-group in larger fields. Last season Angela competed at Ironman Lake Placid, Rev3 Quassy Half Ironman. She is currently training for her second Ironman Lake Placid in 2016.
